Matilda Bay bares all in ‘Rejected Ales’ campaign

Australia’s original craft brewery, Matilda Bay, has launched Rejected Ales, a limited-edition collection of the 27 near perfect brews it rejected on the way to crafting its Original Ale.

Matilda Bay founder Phil Sexton last year told the Drinks Adventures podcast that the pandemic had forced the brewery to bunker down and focus on R&D.

“We had nearly 10-12 months of practice of making beers, trying to perfect them and putting it down the drain,” he said.

“We had no choice. There was nowhere to sell beer.”

Rather than keeping the beers a secret, the brewery has canned them and made them available to the public in a bid to demonstrate the quality of its Original Ale.

With names like ‘Yeah…nah’, ‘Keep dreaming’ and ‘Ballpark’, the beers tell a whimsical story of their rejection, and can be tasted for free with the purchase of Matilda Bay Original Ale:
