Soumah Wines Yarra Valley Equilibrio Chardonnay 2018: Review

Chardonnay is surely the most improved grape variety in Australia over the last decade, as recently discussed with wine judge Dave Brookes on the Drinks Adventures podcast.

The Equilibrio range from Yarra Valley’s Soumah Wines is effectively a reserve blend of its very best barrels, showcasing the full potential of each vintage.

Soumah’s Equilibrio Chardonnay 2018 is an outstanding example of modern Australian chardonnay.

The bouquet overflows with nectarine, honey and nougat, overlaid with that wild ferment ‘struck match’ character, in this case very carefully deployed by the winemaker.

The palate is rich and slightly creamy; but acid and minerality keeps it in check.

An exceedingly complex and well-balanced wine.
