Morris innovates with “smoky fortified” finish

Morris Smoked Muscat Whisky

Morris Whisky has launched a new expression that relies on heavily-charred oak to contribute a smoky accent to its hallmark muscat cask-finished single malt whisky.

Morris Smoked Muscat Whisky is a marriage of dry-biscuit maltiness, rich luscious raisin fruits, soft wood-aged characters and a lingering smokiness.

“By exploring the depths of the barrel charring process our aim was to create a mature single malt that could carry the complexity of heavily charred oak flavours from barrel to the bottle,” said head distiller Darren Peck.

“We then wanted to see if and how these flavours could best complement the luscious intensity of our aged Muscat, conducting countless finishing trials to find the perfect marriage of these two distinctive flavour profiles.

“We believe the unique “smoky fortified” finish is like no other and truly pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved via cask innovation.”

Smoked Muscat Whisky (48.3% ABV) is available direct from Morris and selected retailers at $189 RRP.

It’s the second limited edition release by Morris – which launched with two whiskies in its core range in 2021 – following The Whisky Club exclusive Tokay Barrel in April 2022.
