Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey: A bolder, richer JD

Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey

Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey, the first permanent expression in the brand’s new Bonded Series, is now available in Australia.

Bottled-in-Bond at 100 proof (50% ABV), Jack Daniel’s Bonded is a vatting of barrels that have been hand selected for their unique characteristics of deeper colour, flavour, and aroma, resulting in a richer, more oak-forward expression of Jack Daniel’s.

It was produced in accordance with the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, which stipulates that a bonded whiskey must be distilled by a single distiller during a single season, matured in a government bonded warehouse for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof.

Jack Daniel’s master distiller Chris Fletcher told Drinks Adventures the ‘single distiller’ requirement compels brand owners to disclose exactly where their whiskey was made.

“That’s something that we thought would resonate now, because you’re seeing this proliferation of different American whiskey brands, many of which come from the same distillery,” he said.

“One of the things we pride ourselves on is that every drop of whiskey we distil and make here at Jack Daniel’s, leaves with the name Jack Daniel’s on it.”

Jack Daniel’s Bonded is built on the same recipe of its flagship Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey, being 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye.

“But you’re going to have a lot more oak competing against that [grain bill],” Fletcher said.

“You’ll really notice that difference on the mid-palate and in the finish. In the middle you get some more astringency, and in the finish you get more of a dry spice; some sweet baking spices, a little bit of barrel char, then that dry, seared oak on the back end.

“It’s a bigger, bolder profile whiskey built on the classic Jack Daniel’s flavour, just turned up a bit.”

Jack Daniel’s Bonded is now available across Australia in 700mL bottles for $85 RRP.
