Australian gin distillers dominate IWSC

IWSC Gin Producer Of The Year 2022

Three out of four finalists for the IWSC International Gin Producer Of The Year trophy have been revealed as Australian.

Each year, producers with the best performance in their spirits category’s medal tables are shortlisted for the producer of the year accolade.

The finalists for International Gin Producer Of The Year 2022 are Granddad Jack’s Craft Distillery (Queensland, Australia); Junimperium Distillery (Tallinn, Estonia), Kalki Moon Distillery (Queensland, Australia) and Naught Distilling (Victoria, Australia).

All three Australian distillers are fairly recent start-ups, with Naught Gin founded in 2021, Granddad Jack’s in 2019 and Kalki Moon in 2017.

The results continue a hot streak for Australian distillers at the IWSC, with Four Pillars claiming the title of International Gin Producer in 2019 and 2020, and shortlisted again in 2021, alongside Never Never Distilling.

For the first time, the IWSC has asked shortlisted producers to complete a short questionnaire to help its Judging Committee gain more of a behind-the-scenes understanding of the advancements being made at the distilleries.

The Judging Committee will then agree a winner based on feedback from the questionnaire in combination with the medal results, which will be announced on Thursday September 29 at the IWSC’s 2022 Awards Dinner & Industry Celebration.

Each of the winners from the 10 spirits categories will also be put forward for the IWSC’s Outstanding Spirit Producer of the year trophy.
