IWSC gongs for Four Pillars and Curatif

Four Pillars Gin last week won the inaugural IWSC Global Green Spirits Initiative trophy in what was an anti-climactic night for Australian gin overall.

Australian distillers represented three out of four finalists competing for IWSC International Gin Producer Of The Year 2022, but Estonia’s Junimperium Distillery fended off the antipodeans to claim the prize.

Neither was there any joy for the Australians shortlisted for Spirits Communicator Of The Year 2023, with the trophy picked up by pioneering American podcaster Mark Gillespie, founder and host of WhiskyCast.

However, prolific Victorian distiller Four Pillars redeemed the Australian showing, winning the sustainability award introduced by IWSC this year.

Four Pillars became Australia’s first certified carbon neutral gin distilling business in March 2022, and the environmental features of its expanded Healesville 2.0 home were a major focus of its IWSC entry.

“From our amazing copper veil that cools the water from our stills to save energy, to our copper gin pipes that will cut out twenty-nine tonnes of glass waste every year, and even to our bar seats that are made from pineapple leather,” the company said.

“Now we have recognition on a global scale and we’re just chuffed.”

Curatif wins RTD Producer Trophy

Also gonged on the night was premium RTD producer, Curatif, founded in 2019 by Australians Matt Sanger, Jez Spencer and Sam Lane.

“Curatif is a producer of exceptional ready to serve can cocktails and its entrants performed incredibly well in our 2022 awards including Gold medals for its Jacoby’s Trader Vic’s Mai Tai, Never Never Negroni and Archie Rose Espresso Martini,” the IWSC said.
